Childrens, Families and Youth Assistant

Letchworth Garden City, the first ever Garden City, is a beautiful place to live and minister. The town comprises of two very different demographics, and the parish of St Paul’s contains both. We are a lively and active church where the many problems we have are good problems! Namely how to accommodate the new families we are welcoming on an almost weekly basis.

Please prayerfully consider if God might be calling you to join our team.

Part time Children, Families and Youth Assistant

20 hours a week. Salary TBD

Closing date for applications 17th Dec,

Interviews on the 15th Jan

At St Paul’s, children, young people and families aren’t simply part of our programme — they’re at the heart of our church family.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative and faith-filled Part time Children, Families and Youth Assistant to join our team and help shape the next chapter of our growing ministry.

Our vision is:

“Lives transformed by the light and love of Jesus.”

If you love Jesus, enjoy working with children, young people and families, and want to use your gifts to help the next generation belong, flourish and grow in faith, we’d love to hear from you.

There’s lots to get excited about

You’ll be joining a thriving ministry with more than 75 children and young people already connected with St Paul’s, and around 50 attending our Sunday groups each week.

There’s a brilliant foundation to build on: Sunday groups, midweek youth activities, Messy Church, Holiday Club, a youth band, special events and celebrations — plus strong relationships with five local schools.

And you won’t be doing it alone.

You’ll work closely with our full-time Children, Families & Youth Leader, our wider Ministry Team and a fantastic group of committed volunteers. You’ll have support around you, while also having plenty of opportunity to bring your own personality, creativity, ideas and gifts to the role.

What could you be doing?

No two weeks will look quite the same.

You might be welcoming a new family on Sunday, helping volunteers plan a brilliant children’s or youth session, leading an assembly at a local school, getting creative for Messy Church, helping children explore the Easter story, or dreaming up something completely new.

At the heart of it all, you’ll be helping us:

  • create spaces where children, youth and families feel welcomed, valued and loved;

  • help children and young people discover Jesus and grow in faith;

  • develop engaging Sunday, midweek and seasonal activities;

  • encourage, equip and inspire our wonderful volunteers;

  • strengthen our relationships with local primary schools;

  • involve children, youth and families fully in the worshipping life of St Paul’s; and

  • help our ministry continue to grow and develop.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with a committed and growing Christian faith who genuinely enjoys being around children, youth and families.

You’ll be warm, approachable and encouraging, with the creativity to make faith engaging and accessible. You’ll enjoy working as part of a team, be comfortable taking initiative and have experience of working or volunteering with children and families.

But we’re not looking for someone who already knows everything.

Character, potential, creativity and a willingness to learn matter to us. If you have the heart for this ministry but don’t tick every desirable box, please don’t let that stop you applying.

There is an occupational requirement for the post holder to be a committed Christian and active communicant member of the Church of England, or a church in full communion with the Church of England, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

A role where you can make a real difference

This is an opportunity to become part of a supportive church community, invest in the lives of children, young people and families, and help shape a ministry with an exciting future.

The role is based at St Paul’s Church, 179 Pixmore Way, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 1QT, with some work across the parish and local community.

As children, youth and families are at the centre of the role, regular Sunday, evening and occasional weekend commitments are an important part of the post. The rest of your hours can be worked flexibly in agreement with your line manager.

The appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check, including a check of the Children’s Barred List, as appropriate to the role.

Could this be you?

If you have a heart for children, youth and their families, a desire to share the love of Jesus, and the energy and imagination to help this ministry grow, we would love to hear from you. Please email your CV and cover letter to Emma via the button above.

Come and bring your gifts, your ideas and your faith — and help us show the light and love of Jesus to the next generation.
